Vivid Review: IGNITE: Symphonic Dance Anthems – VIVID Sydney, City Recital Hall (1 & 2 June 2017)

Having made their debut in 2016, IGNITE: Symphonic Dance Anthems returns for two nights only as part of VIVID Sydney. Internationally renowned DJ Dan Murphy joins forces with a full symphony orchestra to present classic tracks which have graced dance floors the world over, such as Sandstorm, Strings of Life and Finally.

During the fifteen minute preview at The Beresford, we were transported back to the 1990s, as iconic dance tracks filled the space. It was difficult to keep still, the combination of classical and house music an addictive mix. When combined with a spectacular light show, IGNITE is a one-of-a-kind display which assaults its audience on every sensory level.

Having seen a mere snapshot, an impressive one at that, it will be interesting to see how the acoustics of the City Recital Hall will amplify and ‘ignite’ this unique sound (pun intended). A mix of musical styles, the combination presented unexpected results and takes you on a journey. Put simply, IGNITE is a toe-tapping good time. I left this preview wanting more.

Conducted by Scott Ryan and featuring the vocal talents of Cecilia Devine, Inaya Day, Zoe Badwi and the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs VOX, IGNITE literally has something for everyone. More than simply a classical orchestra, more than just a DJ set and more than a few fancy lights, this fully synchronized show is an experience – one that needs to be seen to be believed.

IGNITE: Symphonic Dance Anthems is playing on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 June, 2017 at the City Recital Hall in Sydney. Tickets can be purchase online at: https://www.cityrecitalhall.com/events/ignite
