Melbourne’s Arts Centre was buzzing on Saturday night with excited adults and children alike awaiting the start of the highly anticipated Cirque Adrenaline. As the name suggests, the show aims to wow audiences with edge of your seat displays, and showcase circus artists performing death defying stunts.
As the sound hushed and the curtain rose we were introduced to the flamboyant physical comedian whom throughout the night would leave us in fits of hysterical laughter. The performers graced the stage in a choreographed routine and the first act begun! A contortionist soared through the air on the lyre, bending into unthinkable postures whilst swinging metres off the ground.
Acrobats flew through the air on the high bar, balanced on stacks of metal shapes, seemingly defying gravity, and blew fire at the audience, all whilst displaying impeccable routines and showing off their rigorous training which has led to such superb talents.
The adrenaline acts of the night were the aptly named Wheel of Death which had two performers balancing on a big metal turning wheel narrowly avoiding impending doom, an act which truly does have to be seen to be believed. Another exhilarating number was the Sphere of Fear which had motorcycle riders inside a metal cage, narrowly missing each other as they zoomed around at incredible speed. Just when it couldn’t get anymore harrowing, an assistant was inserted in the middle to stand as the bikes zoomed past her head. Was as much a rush for the audience as it was for the performers I’m sure!
Cirque Adrenaline is a fantastic show for the entire family. They truly have picked the best of the best from around the world and designed a show that has the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
