West Writers Forum returning to Footscray Community Arts Centre for 2016 program this weekend

Victoria’s Footscray Community Arts Centre will once again be presenting the West Writers Forum, now in its third year, with New York based award winning poet, writer and activist Mahogany L Browne headlining the weekend.

West Writers Forum: Our Stories will focus on narrative and story, exploring what these terms mean to different communities, through an offering of a selection of workshops, critical conversation, and film screenings.

Highlights include Images, Representation and Beyoncé, a panel focusing on reactions to Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade and the politics of contemporary representation, featuring Mahogany L Browne, Namila Benson, Ayan Shirwa, DJ Wahe and Amie Batalibasi; an installation Visual Story Intervention with illustrator Reuben Brand, which invites readers to rewrite scenes from their favourite stories. And a fiction workshop with Khalid Warsame of The Lifted Brow.

West Writers Forum: Our Stories runs from Friday 29th July until Sunday 30th, all held at the Footscray Community Arts Centre, in Melbourne’s inner west. Tickets for the full weekend cost just $20. Further information, including event listings and ticket details, can be found at the FCAC website.
