The Walkley Book Award forms part of Australia’s most prestigious journalism accolades, the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism. Now in their 61st year, the Awards celebrate the best in Australian journalism, photo-journalism, and documentaries.
The 2016 judging panel narrowed down a nine strong longlist to just three contenders for the main prize, which will be announced at a gala event on December 2nd, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The event will be broadcast live on SKY A-PAC (Foxtel channel 648), and live-streamed through the Walkleys and A-PAC websites.
The 2016 nominated works are:
- Sarah Ferguson and Patricia Drum‘s The Killing Season, a riveting account of Labor’s years in power, including no-holds barred interviews with Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd. The Killing Season also ran as a three part television series.
- Stan Grant‘s Talking To My Country. Hailed as a book “every Australian should read”, Grant’s work examines what it truly means to be Australian, and what racism really means in this country.
- The Art of Rivalry from Pulitzer winning art critic Sebastian Smee explores the relationships between some of modern art’s most famous names, from Degas and Manet to Bacon and Freud.
