The Honey Bees, presented by Red Stitch Actors Theatre, will hold its world premiere in St. Kilda, Victoria on Friday June 17th, with the show running until Saturday July 16.
The production written by Caleb Lewis and directed by Ensemble member Ella Caldwell, explores the struggle of a family-owned honey business trying to meet international demands in a near-reaching bee apocalyptic globe. Australia is one of few remaining places on the planet unaffected by Colony Collapse Disorder – the strange disappearing phenomena of bee colonies. Family relations and decisions are put to the test, when the honey business sets to make a fortune.
Multi- award winning playwright Caleb Lewis has been shortlisted twice for the Griffin Award, and is the winner of an Inscription Award, the Mitch Mathews Award an AWGIE and in 2016 was the inaugural winner of the Richard Burton Award for New Plays. His play Destroyer of Worlds premiering at the 2015 Adelaide Fringe, was dubbed the New Fringe Treasure by The Australian.
