Melbourne ‘future soul’ quartet Hiatus Kaiyote are set to headline the Saturday night of the Perth International Jazz Festival when it returns for a fourth year this June.
Over the first weekend in June, the festival presented in partnership with Brookfield, will see over 50 performances take place across multiple venues across the city; with many of the events free and open to the public.
Joining Hiatus Kaiyote as headliners are Yellowjackets, the renowned jazz-fusion quartet from the United States; who will feature Perth bassist Dane Alderson as their newest member, and help bring the final day of the festival to a close.
The festival will also for the first time make use of the recently renovated Cathedral Square for a number of free performances as part of Saturday’s program. This includes two performances in St George’s Cathedral from Alex Da Costa & Graham Wood Trio and the US’ Christ McNulty who will perform her new orchestral album Eternal.
The festival also aims to feature and showcase local jazz artists; with festival artistic director Graham Wood feeling that the talented pool of players in Perth deserved a platform and opportunity to showcase their work and bring it to a wider audience.
