Helpmann nominated Diamonds Are For Trevor set for Sydney Opera House

Forming part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras celebrations, Trevor Ashley will bring his depiction of the life of Dame Shirley Bassey to the Sydney Opera House for a one off gala event in March 2017.

Performer and drag artist Ashley will transform into Bassey for the evening, with a little help from Academy Award winning costume designer Tim Chappel, belting out some of the Welsh singer’s most iconic hits, and exploring her rags to riches story.

Ashley’s career has also seen him take to the stage as Liza Minnelli, earn a Helpmann nomination for his role as Thenardier in Les Miserables, and work behind the scenes as director of the Australian premiere of Heathers.
For Queensland residents, his latest creation Liza’s Back! (is broken) will be at QPAC in January 2017.

Best known for her recordings of some of the most famous James Bond themes, Dame Shirley Bassey will celebrate her eightieth birthday next year.

Diamonds Are For Trevor will be performed at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday March 2nd. It is rated 18+.
