Award winning Canadian storyteller Gillian English brings acclaimed autobiographical shows to Melbourne

Fresh from fantastic runs at Fringe World in Perth, and a completely sold out run at The Atlantic Fringe Festival, celebrated Canadian storyteller, Gillian English is heading to Melbourne this week to perform two autobiographical solo storytelling shows at the Butterfly Club.

After performing in cities around the world, such as Montreal, Toronto, New York, London; Gillian is delighted to be bringing these two award-winning, critically acclaimed shows to Melbourne!

Covering the past decade of her life, Drag Queen Stole My Dress is an autobiographical story telling the story of love, loss, casino showgirls, Australians and a solitary drag queen with kleptomania. It’s the story of a lost self and regained strength.

Get Around Me picks up right where Drag Queen Stole My Dress leaves off, and explores why that strength is so important in the context of women’s sports, and challenging the status quo of Aussie Rules Football.

It’s a show tackling one of today’s most pressing and talked about issues. While playing Aussie Rules Football for the Canadian National team in Melbourne, Australia; Gillian was sexually assaulted at a Team Canada sponsored party. The attack was encouraged by various members of the Canadian Men’s Team. AFL Canada has refused to take any action against the guilty parties for the past year.

Get Around Me is a heartfelt and hilarious personal account of one woman’s journey into athleticism, and Aussie Rules Football; and the startling truths she uncovers there. A powerful story of strength and heartbreak, this is one footy player who won’t take her sexual assault lying down!

Drag Queen Stole My Dress was nominated for Best Script at the Montreal Fringe Festival; whilst Get Around Me was winner of the Audience Choice Award at Frigid New York.

Drag Queen Stole My Dress is performing Wednesday 16th March at 830pm; whilst Get Around Me is at 830pm on Thursday 17th March. Both performances are at the Butterfly Club, Carson Place, Off Little Collins Street, Melbourne.
