American Idiot is coming to Adelaide: Here’s everything you need to know!

Get ready to make some noise!! Green Day’s Broadway musical, American Idiot, is coming to Adelaide and the award-winning spectacle promises to be explosive.

Following a successful run in Brisbane earlier this year, the Australian production is about to embark on a national tour and will be arriving in Adelaide January 19.

Presented by Adelaide Festival Centre in association with shake & stir theatre and QPAC, the theatre rock show showcases an all-Australian cast including multi-Helpmann Award Nominee Phoebe Panaretos as Whatsername and rock legend Phil Jamieson as St Jimmy.

Winner of two Tony Awards and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot is the story of three boyhood friends searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world, discovering love, loss, drugs, sex and rock and roll along the way. When the three disgruntled men flee the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of the city life, their paths are quickly divided.

Featuring the music of Green Day, with lyrics by lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, the electrifying production has had fans in a state of bliss, introducing a new generation of theatregoers to their powerful and moving musical style. American Idiot features every song from the album of the same name as well as several songs from the follow up release, 21st Century Breakdown.

Reprising her role as Whatsername, Phoebe Panaretos has already received unanimous praise for her Brisbane performance. Making her professional debut in Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Oliver! when she was just 11, the actress has a long list of theatre experience having played the lead role of Fran in the world premiere of Strictly Ballroom The Musical by Baz Luhrmann and starring as Connie Francis in Dream Lover directed by Simon Philips.

An accomplished singer, songwriter and guitarist, Phil Jamieson’s defining lyrics and vocal melodies has captivated fans over two decades. As the voice and face of Grinspoon, Jamieson has fronted one of Australia’s most popular bands. Outside of studios and music venues, Jamison cofounded the Rock N Ride Tour for headspace, the National Youth and Mental Health Foundation in 2013. Now playing the role of St Jimmy alongside Panaretos in the Australian production of American Idiot, Jamieson is getting ready to take the Australian theatre stage by storm.

The musical will play strictly limited seasons in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne. It will also return to Brisbane for an encore season. So be quick, and don’t miss out on discovering what all the noise is about!
