On Thursday, Anywhere Festival opens in Brisbane, for another month of innovative and independent performance, taking place just about anywhere except a theatre. With so much going on, us good folks here at the AU Review have decided to make things a little easier for you and compiled a list of the top 5 shows you’d be mad to miss.
1. Gremlins (Old Skate Arena, Red Hill)
Festival favourites the Gremlins are back in Brisbane to launch their new budget airline Airlinius Hippopotamus, taking off from the remains of the burnt out skate park at Red Hill. Parachutes not included in price of admission.

2. Straight On ‘Til Morning (The Foundry, Fortitude Valley)
Produced by the clever kids behind Brisbane’s Ruckus Poetry Slam, you’re invited to spend the night at Morning, an asylum that plays host to a few names you might just recognise…

3. The Curiosity Experiment (Ecclectica: Esoteric Books & Curiosities, West End)
When a show comes accompanied with a warning that reads Suicidal themes, blindfolds, smells and scares you know you’re in for an interesting night.
I should probably stop watching the trailer with the lights off…
4. B-Movies Live (Padre Bar, Woolloongabba)
It’s 1964 and, armed with props, costumes, and sound effects, a small group of actors gather to make B-movie magic with Frankenstein Meets The Space Monster – what could possibly go wrong?
5. The Medium (The Reservoir, Spring Hill)
A fake seance goes terrifyingly wrong in this one hour opera, held in the astounding acoustics of the Reservoir. Expect terrific vocals and a few scares along the way.
Anywhere Festival runs from May 5th until May 21st, in locations across Brisbane.
