Three shows not to miss at Sydney Opera House’s UnWrapped series

The Sydney Opera House have released details on the much anticipated UnWrapped series, a biannual season featuring acclaimed work by new and established artists. Unwrapped will take place in May and August each year, and be the centre stage for the Opera House’s new Artist & Sector Development initiative that aims to support emerging and independent artists. We’ve wrapped up what three shows are not to be miss at UnWrapped, that kicks off on 9th May 2018.

Mother’s Ruin: A Cabaret About Gin

The cabaret show is a riotous romp through the history of gin, from the eighteenth century London, to New York’s speakeasies, and from the Australian bush to the jungles of Peru. Two rising Australian cabaret stars, Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood will take to the stage for a sixty minute spectacular and take the audience on a journey of love, women and gin. The show also features original songs performed by Amy Winehouse, Martha Wainwright, The Popes and The Pretenders.

Personal

Personal is an experientaial theatre performance that combines installations, theatre and artistic interventions, to challenge ideas of inclusiveness. It is performed by Jodee Mundy Collaborations, a recipient of the Green Room Award for Innovation in Experiential Theatre 2016, who’s latest work, Personal is a moving display that combines perfomance, storytelling and multimedia. It explores Jodee’s experiences of growing up as the only one who can hear in a Deaf family.

Two Jews walk into a theatre…

Two Jews walk into a theatre hilariously explores the territory of father-son relationships through the eyes of creators and performers Brian Lipson and Gideon Obarzanek. The performance followed the two, acting as their fathers and entertaining audiences with terrible jokes, disagreements and provocative ideas. The Australian Stage have described the show as, “So convulsively hilarious that i wanted to slap the knee of the person next to me, pinch their cheeks and roar in their face”. This one is a must see!
