8 Must See Shows at The Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Cabaret is an art form that has something for everyone. The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, running from the 9th to the 24th of June showcases this perfectly. In its 17th year, it has a great mix of classic and contemporary performers from both Australia and overseas. We have listed some of the must-see acts for you to join in to the festivities.

Dianne Reeves

Hailing from the USA and bringing presence and personality to the stage Diane Reeves is not to be missed. This jazz vocalist has a timeless voice and talent that has won her a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Come be blown away by her 21st century R&B on the 12th of June.

Kim David Smith

Morphium Kabarett by Kim David Smith is a cabaret combination sprinkled generously in glitter. This entertainer mixes 1920’s German music with the likes of The Supremes and Kylie Minogue in a perfect classic and contemporary explosion. 17th and 18th of June if you want to experience it yourself.

Bridget Everett

If you like shows like Inside Amy Schumer and Girls, then you will love American alternative cabaret and comedian Bridget Everett. Her jokes and voice are a force to be reckoned with. Come see her honest and hilarious show from the 9th to 10th of June.

The Very Worst of the Tiger Lillies

For a titillating theatrical experience, British trio The Tiger Lillies will help you get down and dirty with decadent cabaret. They mix opera, folk music and punk for a unique performance that will have you wanting more of their antics. The boys can be seen running a muck from the 15th to the 17th of June.

Dahlesque

The festival has fun for all of the family and you can’t go past Dahlesque which is for kids and those young at heart. It mixes the magic words of Roald Dahl with music. Watch star Elise McCann and a nine-piece orchestra sing songs that bring our favourite stories of Matilda, Willy Wonka and James and the Giant Peach to life on stage. Don’t miss out on the 17th and 18th of June.

BRIEFS

Top pick of the variety category would have to be a close encounter with a bunch of boys that go by Briefs. This Brisbane based burlesque combine circus, drag and art in their amazing debut show. Check out the freaky fun from the 9th to 11th of June.

¡Hispanic Attack!

For something a little different but a lot of fun ¡Hispanic Attack! Is a Spanish style cabaret. Ryan Gonzalez infuses his passion with music from Latin legends like Gloria Estefan, J-Lo, Shakira and his sworn enemy Ricky Martin. This hilarious heartthrob can be seen the 14th and 15th of June.

Alan Cumming

Our top pick for full anarchic fun is the very talented Alan Cumming. The English Tony Award winning actor, singer and author is making his Cabaret Festival debut with a one man show you do not want to miss. It is a mix of mischief making stories along with songs and stage classics. The 11th of June is the day to catch it.
