Omg its February already, HOW DID THIS HAPPEN! Never fear, the new year may be well and truly under way, but this month theres a treasure trove of events happening across the country to soothe your anxiety levels.
From the Adelaide Fringe Festival, to award winning musaicals like MAMMA MIA! and even an opera filled with dancing noses- you’re sure to find something that will make you fill better.
Adelaide Fringe (Adelaide)
The Southern Hemisphere’s biggest open access arts festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival, is back for another thrilling year and the 2018 program is packed full of delights! Set to bring an insane 1223 events, over 31 magical days and nights, to various locations across Adelaide, you’ll be spoilt for choice. From the Opening Night Street Party, Monsteria , Trumpageddon and GLOW, there are too many highlights to name.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Melbourne)
Based on the Oscar-winning film, Priscilla Queen of the Desert follows the adventure of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus bound for Alice Springs to put on the show of a lifetime. An epic journey filled with self-discovery, acceptance and sassiness- you’ll feel all the emotions all in one night!
The iconic hit musical is now playing at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre, bringing with it an array of dazzling costumes, headdresses and a ‘nonstop parade of dance-floor classics.’ So get your vocal chords warmed up, break out the glitter and get ready for a night full of grooving!

American Idiot (Perth and Melbourne)
After a successful run in Sydney and Adelaide, Green Day’s American Idiot, makes its way to Perth and Melbourne this month. The award-wining Broadway musical follows the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11, Trumpian –suburbia. Featuring music of Green Day with lyrics by lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, the cast includes Aussie rock legends Phil Jamieson (Grinspoom), Adalita (Magic Dirt) and Sarah McLeod (The Superjesus).

Mamma Mia! The Musical (Sydney)
You’ve most likely seen (or know of) the film of the same name with Meryl Streep dancing around in a fake tan and Pierce Brosnan’s questionable singing- well now everyone’s favourite guilt pleasure is making its way to stages in Australia in a whole new grand spanking production! Labelled as the ‘ultimate feel-good’ musical, Mamma Mia! The Musical is heading to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from Feb 11.
Set on a Greek island paradise and inspired by the story-telling of ABBA’s timeless songs, the tale follows a young bride-to-be on the quest to discover the identity of her father. Starring a talented cast lead by Natalie O’Donnell, Sarah Morrison and Alicia Gardnier, it’s a must combination- just be prepared to have ABBA songs stuck in your head for the next couple of months!

The Nose (Sydney)
Here’s something you don’t hear often: an opera performance accompanied by 10 giant noses running around on stage.
The Australian premiere of Barrie Kosky’s new production of the rarely performed Shostakovich classic The Nose, follows a lowly official chasing his gallivanting nose around town. The electric montage includes different musical and theatrical styles including folk music, popular song and atonality. Conducted by Andrea Molino and with a star studded cast including Martin Winkler, Sir John Tomlinson and Alexander Lewis, the performance promises to be a spectacle like no other. I mean, dancing noses, who doesn’t want to see that?
