Dita Von Teese headlines the 2016 Adelaide Cabaret Festival!

The Adelaide Cabaret Festival this year has been programmed with the concept of what Cabaret could be and under the watchful creative eye of first time Artistic Directors Ali McGregor and Eddie Perfect, a stellar festival line up has been announced! Taking over from outgoing A.D Barry Humphries, McGregor and Perfect have taken to their new role at the helm like ducks to water, bringing together a diverse and entertaining group of international artists and Australian favourites for a festival the rest of the country is set to be envious of.

In a major coup, global burlesque star Dita von Teese will be on her way to Adelaide in June, set to bring a cast of her favourite burlesque acts from around the world to the Adelaide Festival Centre.

Ms Lisa Fischer and Grand Baton will be hitting the Dunstan Playhouse, the iconic vocalist returning to Adelaide after rave solo shows and of course, her work with the Rolling Stones brought her to town for their smash show at the Adelaide Oval. The Cabaret Festival highlights this year include the likes of Barb JungHelen DallimoreHew ParhamMegan Hilty and Sammy J.

Says McGregor of the 2016 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, “We have made a point of celebrating the icons of Cabaret and aspects that have shaped it; political satire, songbook interpretation, comedy, burlesque – while reveling in the new and unique ways artists are working in the genre. We also wanted to represent a snapshot of where cabaret is on the international stage, how different works are being created and to showcase just how strong and inspiring many Australian acts are on the international stage.”

Agreeing with his co-Director’s sentiments, Perfect adds, “What Cabaret has going for it in spades is immediacy. It’s an art form that values communication with an audience above all else, and it can be refreshingly, shockingly and seductively direct. That’s why the Adelaide Cabaret Festival has become an indispensible institution and that’s the reason I couldn’t be prouder to curate, along with Ali, a program of the best of what is happening right now in cabaret around Australia and the world.”
